Crimson Peak is a supernatural gothic mystery about a woman a young heiress who fell in love to a stranger who owns a decaying mansion on top of a mountain with red-blood clay; a house with very dark secrets that will haunt her forever.
This is a gothic romance between Edith Cushing a young heiress aspiring to become an author with a taste of the supernatural and Baronet Thomas Sharpe an inventor seeking an investment from her father. Dashing Thomas swept Edith off her feet and eventually moved to the Baronets’ gloomy, windswept and decaying castle in the north of England.
Living in the castle with the bride and groom is Lucille the spinster sister of the Baronet. Like their decaying caste, Lucille is as cold as the castle whose part of the roof is missing, insects and butterflies all around inside the house and dead leaves and snow falling on the hole on the roof. Lucille is icy and gloomy with very dark secrets.
With a measured pace, the movie is not very subtle, ghosts are not hidden behind doors and closets and the violence is in your face gory. It is not predictable where you know what would happen at the end. Crimson Peak is not the traditional horror movie of today but a Gothic romance horror movie.
The real wonder is the decadent and stylish production design. It is dark and moody with very dark and rich colors. The clothes especially that of the women are dark, the furniture around the castle are dark and heavy which sets the gloomy tone of the movie.
Jessica Chastain did very well as icy and evil Lucille and so with Mia Wasikowska as frail but strong willed Edith; Tom Hiddleston starred as Thomas Sharpe. Directed by Guillermo Del Torro which he also co-wrote with Matthew Robins and Lucinda Coxon. Try the best iptv service in Canada for more pleasurable experiences.
